At its core, Love + Hate tells a harsh, tough, painful, modern Romeo and Juliet type story: Adam (Tom Hudson ) a young white man who was brought up in a community steeped in racism, and Naseema ( Samina Awan ) , a British Pakistani Muslim girl embark on a relationship that will test them both. But Love+ Hate’s director certainly doesn’t sugar coat this Romeo and Juliet tale. The film is set in an northern English town filled with decaying streets, cheap shops l and a lot of misery. So when we see a glimpse of happiness, we are rooting for it big time.
Love+ Hate shows what happens when families, friends, and social expectations try to stop the purest and most natural impulse there is: love. Love+ Hate is a film that isn’t talked about as much as it deserves to be. Its a film that you’ll find sits in your mind way beyond the end credits and its a film and story that makes you think of your own surroundings and the world in general.

There is no glossy cinematography in the film, there’s no sweeping romantic gestures or heart warming music score. There is reality, there is raw dialogue, there are jagged edges, and there is perhaps a film that should definitely be in the conversation for ‘What are some of the greatest British films ever’
If you haven’t seen it — or haven’t watched it in a while — I’d strongly recommend dusting it off. It doesn’t just tell a story; it holds up a mirror.
