“Unlicensed”, the debut feature film from director and lead Mark Hampton is set to screen on October 3rd at the Genesis Cinema as part of the London International Film Festival. The screening follows several packed houses in Cambridge and Soho ahead of the film’s VOD release (iTunes, Google, Amazon Prime, and Rakuten) on November 17th, 2025.

After serving time for insider trading, disgraced city broker Danny Goode finds there’s no way back to his old life. Trying to reconnect with his estranged wife and son but short of cash and struggling with a secret gambling addiction, he enters an unlicensed boxing match with a cash prize.

Speaking about the inspiration and intentions behind the film, Hampton has stated:
“I wanted to do a different take on the traditional boxing movie. I’ve worked in the city, seen how some of those city traders live and I wondered what it would be like to take one of those guys, and strip it all away. I wanted to show a character whose priorities change from the material to the personal. I’m a dad and I know the emotional commitment that parenthood brings. He has to learn what’s worth fighting for.”

Mark went on to say:
“Danny’s an addict. That’s the real battle he’s fighting. Gambling addictions are common in the city. The high-stakes, win-lose mentality of that environment is ripe for addictive behaviour to thrive. Like so many addicts, Danny hides his addiction even from himself – it’s only when he starts to open up about it that his journey towards redemption can really begin. Danny’s biggest fight isn’t in the ring.”

Speaking about the film’s inclusion at London Independent Film Festival Mark has said:
“LIFF has been a champion of independent cinema for many years and gives emerging filmmakers a fantastic platform to showcase their work. Natasha and the team are passionate champions of independent film and the iconic Genesis Cinema provides a wonderful location to bring filmmakers and audiences together.”
