Hot on the heels of the best-selling first series box set, Old Gold Media is proud to announce the release of The Sweeney Series Two Collector’s Edition, making its debut on Blu-ray on 1st September. Yes we know that this is an article about the television series, but we sneaked the story in due to the fact that The Sweeney does also live in the movie world (please forgive us)

As with the 50th Anniversary release of Series One, the iconic police series has been digitally restored and remastered for the first time in the original TV aspect ratio, with the original 2.0 mono and new 5.1 sound options. 

For Series Two of the police drama that threw out the TV rulebook fifty years ago, the stakes for Detective Inspector Jack Regan (John Thaw) and Detective Sergeant George Carter (Dennis Waterman) have never been higher. Whether they’re dealing with the death of a loved one in a hit and run, rescuing hostages at a bank-heist-gone-wrong siege, or tracking down a couple of ruthless Australian criminals, the Flying Squad are going to do whatever it takes to keep the streets of London clean – even if it means playing nice with dodgy informants or being stitched up for corruption and targeted by the men on their own force. This time round, everything is bigger, badder and more action-packed. 

Actors appearing in Series Two include Lynda Bellingham (Doctor Who), Lesley-Anne Down (The Pink Panther Strikes Again), Gwen Taylor (Duty Free), Michael Sheard (Grange Hill), Peter Vaughan (Game of Thrones), Patrick Mower (Emmerdale), James Booth (Zulu), and Ronald Lacey (Raiders of the Lost Ark); with fantastic scripts by the likes of Roger Marshall (The Gentle Touch), Trevor Preston (Out) and Murray Smith (The XYY Man).
